Netbooks were not made for everyone. There are pros and cons to owning one, just as there are pros and cons to everything in the world. It is important to do your research before buying a netbook and seeing if it is the right fit for you. If you just like browsing the internet and checking your email, well then a netbook is perfect for you. If you like watching movies and playing games, then maybe you are better off buying a laptop. Below you will find an outline of what I think are the three main items to look at when shopping for a netbook or really any computer.
A netbook shopper should look at cost
-Netbooks are typically cheaper than laptops
--They can be found new for as little as $200, while a good laptop starts around $400-$500
--Generally the more you pay, the more you get
-Some netbooks are offered free of charge through cell phone carriers with a monthly data plan
--The main cell phone company's offer promotions to get you to use their products
--This is great if you don't already have wifi at home
--Allows you to use the netbook anywhere instead of having to search for wifi hotspots
-Netbooks have no optical drive which contributes to the low cost
--This means no watching your DVD's on it
A netbook shopper must look at power
-Netbooks are able to meet basic computing needs
--For someone who needs to just check their emails and type documents this may be the way to go
-They run on reduced computing power
--They have lesser battery life compared to laptops
-They also have slower processors
--If you are an online gamer, then this is definitely not for you
--Gamers need fast processors to be able to run online games smoothly and without too many glitches
--They graphics will also be sub-par
-Netbooks cannot multitask
--High performance programs cannot run on the system
A netbook shopper should look at size
-Netbooks are desired for their compactness
--They are best for travelers on the go
--They won't take up as much room in your suitcase
--Good to have if you need to finish up your presentation last minute
-They are generally light-weight when compared to other laptops out there
-They have a smaller screen and keyboard
--Having a smaller display may make viewing websites hard
--A smaller keyboard might hinder your typing ability if you have big hands
-Having a smaller screen makes it easier to carry
--There is a 12 inch maximum display size
